Ang TV

Tutoo ba na nakakabobo ang TV?

I can say that I’m one of those kids whose virtual nanny had been the TV set. My lola would let us watch TV and stay at home rather than play ‘tumbang preso’ with my friends. After doing our school homework and completing some house chores we are allowed to watch TV. That’s the deal. “Tanga, gago, ungas!” Are some of the street lingo that is forbidden to be spoken inside the house. Tama ka, nowadays kids need not to be out of the house to learn and use these words, dahil sa simpleng panonood ng TV ay madidinig natin ito.

Noon siguro ay hindi masyado nabigyan pansin yung epekto sa panonood ng TV kaya OK lang sa mga parents, pero ngayon there are lots of studies tungkol dito. And we as parents of these kids who have an easy access to this so called “idiot box” should be reminded that too much TV tends to restrain rather than stimulate children's creativity.

We should be reminded not to leave youngsters too long in front of the Television. It's not a question of the show's quality but the "long hours" spent watching it. . Tsaka mas mabuti siguro to let children watch educational videos, not the regular TV programs.

Madalas sabihin sa akin ng Tita ko who was a nursery school teacher that Rica (my little angel) will be more "bibo, alert and sociable" and could engage grown-ups in conversation if she will join group activities like games, singing, art lessons and poem recitation at school. It’s a good thing that Saint Paul’s School is equipped to provide the learning experiences and child-rearing methods that encourage such activities.

"Too much TV really makes one dumb," my Malaysian colleague said, citing various studies which he said showed that TV viewers specially kids experience less mental stimulation, as measured by alpha brain-wave production, (ano yun, special weapon ni voltes 5?) during viewing than during reading.

When I asked him how he learns all this, he smiled and answered, “Discovery Channel”.

Ang TV. Bow!

growing up in the province where not many tv stations are available has sent us riding our bikes and climbing trees and exploring the neighborhood. another thing with the idiot box is that kids have an overwhelming consciousness of their enviroment. they aren't as innocent as we were before. now whether that's good or bad,i don't know.

they should also enjoy playing with other kids, like riding bikes. sarap yatang magbisikleta kapag kasama yung mga kaibigan.

Tama ka dito. Althoug tv is a very powerful media for learning hindi naman kasi nga lahat ng show eh dapat panoorin. Some of them are simply trash. Dapat piliin ang pinapanood. Ako hindi ako mahilig manood ng tv. Mas gusto ko pa magbasa ng libro.
For kids, it makes them appreciate less the value of the outdoors.
